Derwent Hockey runs its youth development programme in conjunction with Matlock Bailiens Hockey Club… the Matlock Junior Hockey Club. This provides both boys and girls up to the age of 18, with the opportunity to learn and play competitive hockey at both a regional and national level.
Our coaches are qualified through England Hockey, so you can be sure that your child is receiving top quality coaching in a safe and enjoyable environment. Despite the fact that The Derwent Hockey Academy has only been fully operational for three seasons we already have a number of our players representing the county.
Matches are played at under 11 and under 13 level on a regional basis, and teams are entered into national competitions at under 15 and under 18 level.
If you are interested in playing hockey with Derwent, then simply come down to a training session at the appropriate time, found below:
U11 and U13 - Thursday 6:00 - 7:00pm
U15 and U18 - Thursday 7:00 - 8:00pm
To start playing hockey with us, all you need to start are a pair of shin pads, a pair of shorts and a pair of trainers… if you already have a gum shield then bring that along too. A hockey stick is not necessary as we have sticks you can borrow to get you started. When you are happy that you want to continue playing hockey then you can buy your own stick.
If you have any questions then please get in touch with Heath Roberts, our Youth Development Officer on 07946 515852 or heathroberts@gmail.com
